The iQ Construct team are celebrating a second awards win in just a few weeks, with our all-female project team taking out top honours in the ‘Retail Facilities Up To $5 million’ category at the 2020 Far North Queensland Housing & Construction Awards.

Our team have been recognised for their work on the DFS T Galleria project – a retail department store containing luxury brands located within an existing 2-story heritage building in Cairns City centre. The project comprised of a full refurbishment of the existing centre, making way for personalised brand boutiques, including luxury and high-end fashion labels, watches, sunglasses, fragrance and jewellery stores.
iQ Construct’s project team on DFS T Galleria was one of the first in Australia to feature women in every key project role – from Project Manager to Project Co-ordinator and Site Supervisor. The client’s (DFS) project manager was also a woman. Project delivery by an all-female team is an achievement we are very proud of, particularly given men currently account for 89% of the construction industry workforce.

This project was also the first time many of the sub-contractors on the job had a woman as their direct manager. The experience was a positive one for all involved, which is a great sign for the construction industry’s future.

We are thrilled to be recognised by Master Builders Queensland for this regional award and look forward to progressing onto the upcoming state awards.
